Presenting our historic 1997 RUF BTR 2. Finished in a very special Speed Yellow over black perforated leather, this vehicle has great history and is an incredibly important car for RUF. This is VIN 001, making it the first BTR 2 done by RUF on a body-in-white chassis with an authentic W09 RUF VIN.
Starting with the history of the RUF BTR2, this was a model meant to bring back the emotions and driving experience of the iconic single-turbo Group B Turbo RUF introduced to the world in the early 80s. The BTR2 was a progression of the 993 chassis that Alois engineered to bring an exhilarating drive provided by the 420 horsepower, large single turbo 3.6 liter flat six. Mated to a RUF 6 speed gearbox, the BTR2 was geared to achieve high speeds yet provide a power band that still feels full at the bottom end, complimented by a burst of power once boost kicked in. This particular example is in exceptional condition and is another unique piece of RUF history we are bringing to the public eye as it is VIN 001. Being an early built BTR2, this car was built for a Japanese collector whom had the car spec’d without the integrated cage, aiming for a lightweight RS style build. From the aluminum doors, light weight carpeting and RS doors and dashboard, this BTR2 was ordered to be the lightest spec possible at the time. Optioned with a full leather interior with perforated seat inserts, door handles and steering wheel, the interior of this BTR2 is simplistic elegance. Updated by RUF North America, this car now has RUFs newest fully homologated SAE and DOT OEM lighting system and has a set of new, lighter, carbon RUF lollipop buckets finished in the same leather with perforated inserts and yellow deviated RUF logo. Equipped with a Porsche classic radio, full front clip PPF, complete cryo cleaning of the undercarriage and fresh services, this piece of RUF history is ready to be enjoyed. This BTR2 is being sold with the original smaller Japanese market RUF Recaro seats, RUF certificate, and records dating back to its original stamped booklets from when the car was built and then brought to Japan through RUF’s representative, Ishida Engineering.
