The beginning of it all, the RUF BTR. RUF’s first manufactured model with a W09 RUF VIN and the world’s fastest production car of 1984 breaking the 300kph barrier. With few made, this cabriolet is of the handful of BTR IIIs in this body style. Our BTR III Finished in Iris Blue Metallic over full Blue leather combination. Ordered originally through Ishida Engineering, this RUF was ordered for the Japanese market, delivered in 1991 and spent most of its life in Japan until relocating to the US. Optioned as the highest power output and most mechanically advanced variant of the BTR III, this car was done in widebody configuration with unique box flares and vented rear quarter panels, featuring a six speed gearbox, RUF CTR 330mm braking system, RUF CTR bumpers, RUF 350kph cluster, Recaro Classic seats in working, extended fuel tank, RUF manual boost controller, RUF Bilstein suspension, and a 40% locking rear differential. Additional accessories that compliment the car are its RUF Zertifikat, leather cabriolet cover, an extra speedster-style vinyl cover, keys, booklets and service records.
History of the RUF BTR Model: The RUF BTR is the very first RUF model brought to the world with RUF’s iconic W09 VIN. For those looking to add a piece of RUF history to their collection, the BTR is an absolute “must have” in any connoisseur’s collection. Unveiled in 1984, the BTR was released as the “BTR 3.4”. Powered by a single turbo, 3.4 liter flat six producing about 374 horsepower mated to RUF’s very own (first of its kind) dog-leg 5-speed gear box and later offered with an optional 6-speed gear box. First named the “BTR 3.4” these cars were managed by a Bosch K-Jetronic injection system, later changed over to Bosch’s Motronic management thus granting these vehicles the moniker of “BTR III”.
